Praying For Your Husband: A Wife’s Commission.

I have learned a lot of things these past 5 years of walking with the Lord. One such area God has been growing me in recently is marriage. I have been married 11 years, but in these past 8-10 months I have been applying biblical principles into my role as wife and mother and have witnessed the good fruit it produces.

I want to encourage wives to make praying for their husbands a part of their daily prayer life.

It’s all too easy to get caught up in what the world and society suggest a wife should be, but our identity is in Christ alone, the cornerstone. Should we not live as examples in all areas of our lives, especially in our home with our families, which for many of us is our first ministry.

Today I wanted to share a page from my prayer journal that focuses on praying for your husband’s position as leader of the home. You can use this prayer as a rough guide to get an idea, but I recommend you personalize it to your husband and your marriage. If you pray earnestly for your spouse, you will see the transformative effect it will have on your husband and your marriage.

Ephesians 5:23 NIV

For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

Father, I come in the precious name of Jesus before your throne to intercede on my husband’s behalf. Bringing all areas of my life before you. Inviting you into my marriage, my day and my life. May you rule and reign in our marriage and continue to teach us what it means to have a biblical marriage, coming together as husband and wife to serve you.

Thank you for the blessing of my marriage and thank you for all the amazing works you have done in both our lives. Teach me how to be the wife my husband needs me to be. Teach me how to glorify you through my role as a wife. I ask that you lead my husband in your ways. Teach him what it means to be a biblical husband. I pray that you will keep his eyes focused on you, as he stands at the head of our household, making you the Lord of his life.  

 Today, Lord, I ask that you fill my husband with a peace and joy that surpasses all understanding. Give him the sense and discernment required to walk in victory. Open his spiritual eyes and ears, Lord. May your presence fill the space he is in. Encourage him to stand confidently in his role as the head of our family. Teach him how to manage and lead his family according to your ways.

Remove from him any lies or insecurities that may hinder him from being the godly man you have called him to be. Lord, grant my husband the strength and patience needed to preform all the responsibilities you have given to him. Set his eyes on you, reignite his hunger and passion for your word daily.

 Equip him with the assurance and boldness needed in order to lead our family to your will. Give him the wisdom and understanding required to make appropriate choices and the humility to accept your will when it isn’t easy to. Teach him how to be faithful and obedient unto your will and your ways. Bless the work of his hands so it may bring glory to your name. 

Thank you, Father, for the wonderful covenant of marriage. And for the beauty of the fellowship we share as husband in wife, coming together as one, before your throne to submit to your will and your ways. May we never forget that our marriage reflects the relationship of Jesus Christ and His bride, the church.

Father, thank you for keeping us through these 11 years of marriage. It is only because of you we stand here today stronger than ever before, encouraged and emboldened by your words.

I pray these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
